Wilson Camera Digital Lab & Portrait Studio's professional shutterbugs Rudolph Henninger and Jerry Fitzpatrick spend three hours imparting proper photography techniques to fledgling lens-wielders. Attendants tote their own SLR or point-and-shoot cameras to the workshops, which take place at one of two outdoor locations. Up to 40 students gather at the picturesque, zoo-neighboring Papago Park to capture images of wildlife and scenery, such as the sandstone's naturally occurring laser shows; 15 or fewer pupils meet at Lopiano Habitat in Tempe to study nighttime photography. Once nestled in nature, workshop participants soak up wisdom about lighting, time exposure, metering, and ISO settings. The curriculums also include information on F-stops, shutter speeds, and how to keep distracted cameras focused on the task at hand. Class dates may sometimes change due to weather conditions.
